drinks list
Local, award-winning wine, beer and cider
We knew, when setting up the bed and breakfast, that being able to provide drinks with an evening meal would be the icing on the cake. We had stayed at a couple of places that had a license, and greatly appreciated being able to have a glass of wine at the end of a long day out.

We list only English wines, from Camel Valley in Cornwall and Sharpham in Devon. We do this because both vineyards produce very high quality wine which consistently wins international awards, and we believe the wines compare very favourably to those produced elsewhere.

We also stock excellent, award-winning Cornish beers (Penpont Brewery) and ciders (Cornish Orchards).

It is not necessary to eat in order to try a bottle. You are welcome to take a drink up to your room, or to sit out in the garden, listening to the birds.

White Wine

Camel Valley Bacchus Dry 2009 - 12.5%
A modern Sylvaner/Riesling cross that produces wine with a distinctive fruity bouquet, and a grapey flavour. Perfect with seafood. 'England's answer to Sancerre.’ International Wine Challenge Silver Award 2010.

Sharpham Barrel Fermented 2009 - 11.5%
100% Madeleine Angevine. One of the few English wines to be fermented in new oak barriques. The aromas and flavours are complex and balanced, giving a wine that has great finesse.

Red Wine

Sharpham Red 2009 - 12.0%
Dry red made from Rondo grapes. Three days cold maceration followed by fermentation on the skins has resulted in a beautifully deep, garnet coloured wine. It is aged in oak barrels giving a firm structure which is balanced by vibrant, rich, black fruit flavours. Best Red and Best Wine in the South West Vineyards Competition 2010.

Sharpham Pinot Noir 2009 - 12.5%
Perfectly ripe grapes hand picked, de-stemmed and then hand plunged during an extended cold maceration. A delicious bright wine packed full of sweet round plummy fruit. The finish is dry and savoury with lingering red fruits. English and Welsh Wine of the Year 2010 - Gold.
