Varied walking

Inspiring walking country, from quiet river walks along wide estuaries and through steep wooded valleys, up to the vast, open, craggy expanses of Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor, and out onto the spectacular coastlines of the north and south coasts.

Cycling to suit all tastes

Varied and interesting cycle routes, through small, quiet country lanes that connect many delightful villages, hamlets and historical sites, offering everything from flat(ish) easy riding, to demanding steep inclines.

National Trust

Many National Trust properties within a short distance, including Cotehele House, Buckland Abbey, Lydford Gorge, Antony House and Lanhydrock House.

Beautiful gardens

From the grand and formal, to small and intimate, including Endsleigh Gardens, Ken-Caro, The Garden House, Wildside Gardens and Mount Edgcumbe.

English Heritage

English Heritage are responsible for much older properties and sites of historical importance, such as castles, ancient settlements, stone circles etc. Many can be found throughout Cornwall and Devon.

Mining Heritage

Along with nine other areas throught Cornwall and Devon, the Tamar Valley was granted World Heritage Status in 2006 owing to the importance of the mining industry remains still in existence. Developments in mining technology in these areas helped fuel the Industrial Revolution, and local expertise was exported all over the world.

Outdoor pursuits

The Tamar Valley has a number of options if you like to be active on holiday. Canoeing, horse riding, off-road driving, sailing, golf, watersports, hot air ballooning, archery, and a climbing wall might give you some ideas for starters.
